Choosing the ideal backdrop is one of the most important parts of planning your session! The locations in this guide are my most requested spots, each with its own unique vibe, lighting, and personality. Whether you’re drawn to golden fields, vibrant city streets, or quiet hidden gems, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here.


These are suggestions based on what’s worked beautifully for my clients, but I’m always open to new ideas and happy to suggest more based on your vision!

Golden fields, peaceful trails, and a lakeside dock - perfect for a relaxed, nature-forward session. My most requested location!


Best time to shoot:

Golden hour (evening) or early morning before harsh sun.


Pros:

  • Diverse scenery offering multiple styles/moods in one session.
  • Good amount of parking.
  • Nice colors year-round.


Considerations:

  • Can get busy on warm weekends.
  • Large park - requires some walking and driving between key spots.

Best time to shoot:

Early morning for soft light and minimal crowds, or early evening - keep in mind the sun gets blocked by buildings, so it gets dark faster.


Pros:

  • Big variety of backdrops - murals, cafés, boutiques, and skyline views.
  • Walkable stretch with endless photo opportunities.
  • Unique Austin vibe that’s full of character.


Considerations:

  • Busy during weekends and evenings - expect people around or in the background, and may need to wait for open spots or for people to move.
  • Very limited free parking - meter or paid parking may be required.

Lush gardens, winding stone paths, and charming historic cottages create a whimsical, storybook-like backdrop.


Best time to shoot:

Early morning for soft light, cooler temps, and fewer visitors. Late afternoon also works well for warm, golden light filtering through the trees.


Pros:

  • Beautiful natural scenery with lots of variety - gardens, water features, shaded trails, and rustic structures.
  • Unique character with peacocks and native plants you won’t find at most locations.
  • Great mix of open spaces and shaded areas for flattering light throughout the session.


Considerations:

  • Can get busy, especially on weekends and nice weather days. May need patience for popular spots.
  • Peacocks are unpredictable (fun, but not always cooperative!).

No photography permit required for casual sessions.

Best time to shoot:

Late afternoon/golden hour when the sun casts a warm glow over the rocks and water. In the fall, the area offers soft, neutral tones with warm golden highlights.


Pros:

  • Variety of natural backdrops.
  • Neutral, timeless color palette that works year-round.
  • Free and open to the public with easy access to multiple shooting spots.


Considerations:

  • Can be busy on weekends, especially during warm weather.
  • Rocky terrain - may require walking on uneven surfaces; bring suitable shoes.
  • Water levels can vary seasonally.
